EAE CSR Project Group Implements another e-waste awareness event at Vasant Leela in Thane on 12th November, 2011

The preparations of the awareness drive started with visit to Mr. Duggal and Mr. Gajjar, the members of Federal Committee of Vasant Leela. They were extremely helpful and  ready to provide whatever help we needed to carry out the activity in their society.

Primary goals for the awareness drive:

1.   Put up the e-waste awareness posters on the society notice boards

2.   Spread awareness about e-waste and its hazards through information leaflets

3.   Collect e-waste from people who are interested to participate

In our e-waste awareness drive, we loved talking to the residents, understand what they believe, and how much they knew about e-waste and its hazards. As the jargon “e-waste” was new to them, majority of the efforts went in explaining them about e-waste its hazards if not recycled properly.

We believe that the key at this stage in the campaign is awareness and promotion. People want to do the right thing, but most of the time don’t know what the right thing is. We want to help people by providing them with a resource they can easily utilize, and we believe that a proper marketing campaign would spread the word about the resource.

We actively promoted our informational blog so that after we leave they might find the resources for e-waste information compiled at a single location.

The e-waste collection was not significant but had a good mix of electronic equipments like old hard disks, motherboards, processors, cell phone batteries, cell phones, video game circuit boards, headphone wires etc.

We are extremely thankful to the residents of Vasant Leela for contributing towards welfare of  the environment without expecting any monetary benefits in return.

We are also thankful to Mr. Anuj Maheshwari, Marketing Manager, ECORECO for his co-operation throughout the awareness event.  We learnt about the various processes involved in the proper technical recycling of e-waste . When corporates give e-waste to registered recyclers, they have to be given  Form 13 relating to Hazardous Waste Disposal and a CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board) document which informs the government about the list of e-waste that was reported to be disposed. We found this very organized.

Special thanks to our CSR professor Mr. Sandeep Ghiya for guiding us and giving valuable inputs which helped us to implement the project successfully.
